Basic Groups
At after-school care, children are cared for in a core group. A core group is a permanent group into which the after-school care children are assigned, but is not linked to a physical space. This allows multiple core groups to share a large space. Children and parents have full insight into which space(s) each core group uses.
Each core group has a team of permanent childcare staff; the goal is a permanent team of no more than four staff members. These permanent staff members are the point of contact for parents. We strive for sound personnel management so that a permanent childcare staff member is regularly replaced in the event of, for example, long-term illness or leave. Being together in a group is essential for children to learn to function naturally within a group setting. After-school care is a great “testing ground” for this.
